Creativity

The creative mind is about connecting the dots between technologies, environments, people, and problems to bring about solutions that create a more interesting, beautiful world. There is a growing awareness that our common model of education has failed the creativity of our youth, and is only showing signs of becoming more standardized and fruitless.

At Real Life ALC, imaginative thinking is celebrated and creative endeavors define our day-to-day learning. We have tailored our culture for self-exploration which creates an environment that is ripe for discovery of one’s passions, creativity, and flow. Only if we recognize the creativity of our youth and create an environment where their ideas can flourish, will we see a generation that is truly empowered to create a more promising future.

Technology

Part of the creative process is knowing our best tools. The “tech community” of today represents the network of individuals who realize the utility and impact of these tools and have self-selected to immerse themselves within them. We nurture this awareness in our youth.

For us, this means exposing our kids to the technologies that are defining their future, such as virtual & augmented reality, 3D printing & modeling, biohacking, high-powered computing, and more. Having a foundation and hands-on understanding of these technologies will prepare today's kids for the world they're growing into.

Entrepreneurship

The future as we know it belongs to creatives, freelancers, and entrepreneurs. The most impactful entrepreneur is one that leverages their creativity with the technologies that are pushing the boundary of current culture.

Ultimately, we want our children to enter the world feeling wisely-creative, intelligently-optimistic, and compassionate as leaders. At Real Life ALC Tampa, it is our responsibility as educators to create an environment where these traits are not only celebrated but brought out of them in meaningful and fulfilling ways.

21st Century Education

The world is exploding with new information and high specialization. For Children to learn to navigate this fast changing landscape, they need a chance to actually be at the helm of their learning experience, to practice making decisions and discovering their gifts, talents, and passions.

Children are natural learners. They are at their peak of mental flexibility and ability to assimilate ideas, insights and exploration. It is senseless to consume their days and evenings with the memorization and regurgitation of data for standardized tests on a narrow selection of subjects.

We live in an age where information is at our fingertips. Far more important are the skills of finding it, filtering it, integrating it, and using it in new and creative ways to build something valuable.

The ability to quickly translate a vision or idea into tangible results has always been a valuable skill. In today’s rapidly evolving world, it is a fundamental capacity of the leaders in every field. Daily activity at an Agile Learning Center is organized around this understanding.

Mission

Real Life ALC is a revolutionary K-12 self-directed education center whose mission is to provide nonjudgmental and safe space for learners to discover, explore, and connect to their passions and purpose.

Purpose

Many adults express regret that they were unable to identify their passion earlier in life. What are you here to do? How do you discover your purpose? One thing we know is that you won’t find it without ample opportunities to explore. If you can’t try doing what you think you might love, you won’t find out whether or not you really love it.

We regularly hear from parents that they wish they’d had the opportunity to explore their passions a lot earlier so they could have developed a greater sense of purpose. Maybe they didn’t need to change their college major 5 times, graduate with a degree they didn’t really use, then finally figure out what they’re about in a mid-life crisis.

In the last twenty years, the American workforce has completely changed. 80% of new jobs are in small business and freelance. Gone are the days of plentiful jobs working for large businesses, in manufacturing, and assembly lines. Our educational system was designed for the old economy, where some of the best skills a child could master would be to show up and do exactly as they were told. We now need creative thinkers who identify needs, think of solutions, and know how to make things happen. An effective learning cycle will fully integrate those skills.
